St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Dartmouth, Massachusetts is under the jurisdiction of the Metropolis of Boston under the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, an eparchy of the Holy Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
We belong to the Universal Orthodox Church whose founder is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. It has its ancient beginnings on the day of the Holy Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Holy Apostles in Jerusalem, who by their preaching founded Christian churches throughout the Holy Land, Asia Minor, Syria, Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, and throughout the Roman Empire.
The Orthodox Church today consists by the Apostolic Succession, the elder of the worldwide communion of Orthodox Churches, including the native churches of Russia and other former Soviet republics, the churches of Greece and the Balkan countries, and all Orthodox Christian churches of the diaspora in all continents, numbering nearly 300 million souls, one of the largest Christian religious denominations in the world.
The Orthodox Church is a highly Biblical church, having as its sources of Revelation the Holy Bible and the Sacred Tradition. It is led by our bishops, according to the Episcopal Apostolic Succession, it adheres to the Nicene Constantinopolitan Creed, the decisions of the Seven Ecumenical Councils, accepts the wisdom, the faith and the teachings of the Great Fathers of the Church and honors greatly the saints, especially the holy martyrs, who gave their lives for their faith and loyalty to the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.
